Friends of Milo
Privacy policy
Last updated September 28, 2026
Friends of Milo runs this site for the town of Milo, Maine. This page says what it collects, why, and who can see it. It stays short because the site collects very little.
Who is responsible
Friends of Milo, a volunteer committee in Milo, Maine, decides what this site collects and what happens to it. Dead Pixel Design built the site and runs the servers, the database, and the alerting on the committee’s behalf, under their direction and for no other purpose.
Questions about anything on this page go to hello@visitmilomaine.org, which reaches the committee.
What the site collects
When you submit an event
You send the event itself: what it is, when and where, and whatever details you add. That part is meant to be published, and it appears on the calendar once a moderator approves it.
Your name and contact details are optional, and they’re handled differently. They never appear anywhere on the public site. They sit in a separate table that only the two moderators can read, so that somebody can check a detail with you before your event goes up. When an event is deleted, the contact details go with it.
When you fill in the community survey
Survey responses are anonymous by construction. There’s no account, no name field, and nothing stored alongside your answers that points back at you. Once a response is written, the browser that sent it can’t read it back, and neither can anybody else visiting the site. The moderators can read the answers and delete junk. Nobody can edit a response, ever.
If you’re a moderator
Moderator accounts hold an email address, a password the site never stores in readable form, and a second factor from an authenticator app. A cell number is stored only if a moderator turns on text alerts.
What the servers record on their own
The hosting and database services keep short-lived operational logs, which include IP addresses, the way every web server does. Those logs exist to keep the site running and to spot abuse. They aren’t read for anything else and nobody builds a profile out of them.
What the site doesn’t do
- No Google Analytics, and no analytics script of any kind. Nothing on the site counts or follows visitors.
- No advertising, and no advertising trackers.
- No cookies except the sign-in session cookie for the two moderators. If you never sign in, the site doesn’t set one.
- Nothing is sold. Nothing is rented. There’s no mailing list and nobody is being marketed to.
- No comments anywhere on the site, so there’s no comment history to collect.
Text messages
The only people who get a text from this site are its two volunteer moderators, and only if they’ve opted in from their account settings. Residents never receive a text. There’s no way for the public to sign up for one and no marketing message is ever sent.
A moderation alert says that a submission is waiting for review and gives a link to the review queue. It deliberately names nothing. Not the event, not the person who sent it, not their contact details. A text shows up on a lock screen, and submitter details are staff-only everywhere else on this site, so they stay out of the message too.
A moderator can stop the texts at any time by replying STOP, or by turning them off in account settings. Replying HELP returns contact information. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency depends on how many events and businesses people submit, which is a handful a month.
No mobile information collected for text alerts is sold, and none of it is shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. A moderator’s number goes to Twilio and nowhere else, for the sole purpose of delivering that moderator’s own alerts.
Who else touches this data
The site runs on services that see what passes through them. They’re named here so you know where things land. None of them get any of it for their own purposes.
- Supabase holds the database, on servers in the eastern United States.
- Netlify hosts and serves the site.
- Resend delivers the moderation alert emails.
- Twilio delivers the moderation alert texts.
How long things are kept
Approved events stay on the calendar while they’re relevant. Rejected submissions are kept as the record of a moderation decision rather than quietly erased, and the submitter contact details attached to them are deleted whenever the submission itself is deleted.
Survey responses are kept until the Milo Economic Development Council has finished the planning work they were gathered for.
What you can ask for
Write to the address at the top of this page and you can ask what the site holds about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be deleted. If you submitted an event and gave your name, that’s what there is to find.
Survey responses are the one thing that can’t be pulled back out. No record links a response to the person who wrote it, which is the point of them being anonymous, and it also means nobody can pick yours out to remove it.
Children
This site is for the general public and isn’t directed at children. It doesn’t knowingly collect anything from a child under 13. If you think a child has sent something in, write to the address above and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If what the site collects changes, this page changes with it and the date at the top moves. There’s no separate archive, so the version you’re reading is the one in force.
